IN 1980 I WROTE AN APPLICATION FOR THE NORTH TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY FOR A PERMANENT GRANT FROM THE DON AND SYBIL HARRINGTON FOUNDATION TO ESTABLISH THE HARRINGTON STRING QUARTET. I WON THE POSITION AS FIRST VIOLINIST OF THE QUARTET AND CONCERTMASTER OF THE AMARILLO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. THE HARRINGTON QUARTET SOON GREW TO OVER 60 CONCERTS PER YEAR, AND IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO THE FIRST BANFF INTERNATIONAL STRING QUARTET COMPETITION BY THE JUILLIARD STRING QUARTET. THE HARRINGTON QUARTET STILL EXISTS, AND IT HAS WON NATIONAL ACCLAIM.
